Partnership Project within the framework of the Leonardo da Vinci Programme
Project title: "Raising awareness of the data protection issues among the entrepreneurs operating in the EU"
The Bureau of the Inspector General for Personal Data Protection shall launch the partnership project financed from the resources of the European Union within the framework of the Leonardo da Vinci Programme, being part of the "Lifelong Learning Programme" entitled "Raising awareness of the data protection issues among the entrepreneurs operating in the EU". The project shall be realised in cooperation with the Czech Office for Personal Data Protection and the Hungarian DPA.
The project is aimed at providing educational and training materials to the entities undertaking activity in one of the countries participating in the project consortium. All partner countries participating in the execution of the project point at the lack of comprehensive information on the data protection law application practices in particular areas of daily life. The lack of systematised knowledge is indicated both by the entities representing various sectors of economic and public activity and by natural persons. Taking into account the above mentioned intensified needs, it is necessary to undertake any activities aimed at dissemination of knowledge on personal data protection, addressed to various groups of recipients.
The publication will refer to data protection problems in the context of conducting business activity. It will include a review of practices applied in particular partner countries related to the application of the provisions on personal data protection, which can directly influence the legitimacy and compliance with the provisions of the conducted business activity. It will discuss among others the issues related to the obligations and activities which shall be undertaken to register and safeguard personal data of employees, as well as to handling data for the purposes of the company's activity.
As a result, the project will be aimed at dissemination of knowledge on personal data protection in a way enabling effective and independent learning by direct addressees of the legal provisions in this regard in the partner countries.
The execution of the project will allow to:
- analyse and compare personal data protection law implementation practices in the partner countries,
- provide information on personal data protection to entrepreneurs undertaking business activity abroad,
- raise awareness of and inform all the recipients to whom the publication is addressed about all necessary activities, rights and obligations related to the registration of a company in the partner countries,
- strengthen the role of data protection authorities in particular countries participating in the project as regards dissemination of information among particular groups of recipients,
- intensify cooperation between data protection authorities in various EU Member States.
The project shall be carried out in the years 2009-2011.
