6th Data Protection Day – 28 January 2012

On the occasion of the European Data Protection Day, which was celebrated in Poland for the sixth time, the Inspector General organized an Open Day for all citizens and held a conference under the slogan "What does the State know about its citizens? The principles of data processing in public registers". Also, as usual the European Data Protection Day was celebrated in Brussels, where Dr. Wojciech Rafał Wiewiórowski held a meeting with Members of the European Parliament, he took active part in the 5th International Conference on Computers, Privacy and Data Protection and he organized the solemn meeting of the experts of data protection in the Republic of Polish Permanent Representation of the Republic of Poland to the European Union.

24 January 2012, Brussels - the meeting of the Inspector General for Personal Data Protection Dr Wojciech Rafał Wiewiórowski (GIODO) with Polish Members of the European Parliament at the seat of the European Parliament in Brussels;

24 January 2012, Brussels - GIODO organized, for the sixth time, the celebration of the 6th Data Protection Day, in cooperation with and at the premises of the Permanent Representation of the Republic of Poland to the EU, in Brussels. The celebration was attended by Data Protection Commissioners of the EU Member States, headed by Mr. Peter Hustinx, European Data Protection Supervisor, representatives of the Polish ministries and central offices, visitors from the European Commission, Council of Europe, Members of the European Parliament and representatives of diplomatic missions in Brussels;

25 January 2012, Brussels – GIODO participated as a speaker in the 5th International Conference Computers, Privacy and Data Protection, European Data Protection: Coming of Age”;

27 January 2012, Gliwice – the game entitled   “DATA served on a tray”  designed for schools which participate in the project „Your data, your concern”. Educational initiative addressed to students and teachers. The Game, organized by the Gliwice Training Centre (Gliwicki Ośrodek Metodyczny) along with a branch of the Gliwice NGOs Centre “Active Youth Home” (Gliwickie Centrum Organizacji Pozarządowych „Dom Aktywnej Młodzieży”) consisted in finding and solving tasks concerning personal data protection. Students received maps according to which they will move between different checkpoints.

30 January 2012, Warsaw - GIODO organized, just as in previous years, the Open Day at the seat of his Bureau. During the Open Day everyone had an opportunity to obtain legal advice as well as educational and informational materials. GIODO also organized a press conference;

30 January 2012, Warsaw – Conference entitled "What does the State know about its citizens? The principles of data processing in public registers".

31 January 2012, Warsaw – chat with the Inspector General at the wp.pl portal. The subject of the conversation was what the State knows about its citizens, and on the other hand what the state should know about its citizens, and also what kind of information the State should not collect as well as not process.
