Universal Declaration of UNESCO on the Human Genome and Human Rights
The Universal Declaration of November 11, 1997 on the Human Genome and Human Rights is a document of universal nature. Pursuant to its assumptions genetic data associated with an identifiable person must be held confidential (Article 7). As it results form the content of the act such protection covers all genetic data regardless of the purposes of their collection. Collection of such data for research purposes was pointed out as an instance. Limitation of the above principle may only be prescribed by law.
